** ASVAB Testing Sign up**
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be offered at Benton High School on Monday, November 4th. If you are interested in joining the military, you definitely need to sign-up. However, the ASVAB is not just a military test. Taking the ASVAB will give you access to an entire Career Exploration Program that will help you identify and explore career fields that are best suited for you. Complete this Google Form or stop by Mrs. Varnado's office (B-101) during non-class times to sign-up. Seats are limited to the first 60 students that sign up.
Why take the ASVAB?
Your scores in four critical areas — Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Mathematics Knowledge (see below) — count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you're qualified to enlist in the U.S. military.
Your scores in the other areas of the ASVAB will determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and enlistment bonuses. A high score will improve your chances of getting the specialty/job and signing bonus you want.

Ap School Honor roll
College Board announced that Benton High School has been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning BRONZE distinction.
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Benton High School had 68% of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school, 27% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 7% of seniors who took five or more AP Exams!
Benton High School is being further recognized with the AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who took at least one AP Exam before graduation is proportional to or above Benton High’s student population, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.
“AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”
College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
