UPDATE: Thursday, January 29, 2026

Bossier Schools will remain CLOSED for students and teachers Friday, January 30 out of an abundance of caution due to continued safety concerns on our campuses as a result of the wintry weather.

We cannot risk your children’s return to school until the thick ice accumulation melts or can be removed from awnings, walkways, bus ramps and parking lots.

Our district leaders and 12-month employees will be working Friday to get our schools and centers ready for reopening Monday, February 2, and to de-ice and prepare for another round of frigid temperatures being forecast for the weekend. This is a work day at our schools and centers, and they will not be open for normal operations.

We know this week has been unusual and Bossier Schools greatly appreciates your understanding, support and working with us to make the best of the situation.

UPDATE: Wednesday, January 28, 2026

Out of an abundance of caution, all Bossier schools and district offices will remain CLOSED Thursday, January 29 as the district continues to assess the impact the recent winter storm is having on operations.

Though the ice is melting, considerable hazards remain on roadways, bus ramps, in car lines and on our school campuses, making it unsafe for our students and staff to return. In addition, the National Weather Service is forecasting freezing fog overnight and into Thursday morning, heightening the danger of traveling.

It is our hope to reopen Friday, January 30 after another day of above-freezing temperatures. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding this week and will provide another update at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I am excited to inform you that the American Heritage Poetry Contest has returned to Bossier Parish this school year, and your child/children are invited to participate.

Stockwell Place Elementary may enter one student from each grade in the parish-wide competition which will be held in February. To select our school’s student representatives for this event, we will hold a school-wide competition on January 21st. The first-place winners will go on to compete on the parish-wide level. The following are the guidelines for the parish competition which will also apply to Stockwell’s preliminary competition:

American Heritage Poetry Contest Rules:

Students must recite a patriotic poem.

Students will be eliminated from judging if they go over the required number of lines below.

Props will not be allowed.

Costumes and/or Sunday dress are encouraged, but will not affect judging. Students will be judged on the following four criteria: memorization, pronunciation, expression, and confidence/poise.

Line Requirements:
Kindergarten students will recite a 4 line poem.
First-grade students will recite a 6-8 line poem.
Second-grade students will recite an 8-12 line poem.
Third-grade students will recite a 12-16 line poem.
Fourth-grade students will recite a 16-20 line poem
Fifth-grade students will recite a 20-24 line poem.

** A line should be a maximum of 15 words.

We have included the link for a Google form in this e-mail as well as a link to the Discover Poetry website for some poem options. If your student would like to participate in the American Heritage Poetry Contest, please click on the Google form link, indicate your student’s name and intent to memorize and recite a patriotic poem of the appropriate length, and select his/her grade level. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail us.

We look forward to watching your child shine!
